At the stroke of midnite, on the 1st of January 2009, just about everywhere in the world, some sort of pyros is set off to mark the coming of a new year.
Here in the Netherlands, its an occasion where neighbors go frenzy with all sorts of fireworks. Most light up mediocre ones, where other's blow-up rows and rows (and rows!) of massive fireworks. This video is a minute or two of what was going on right outside our door.
You might wanna watch this TV advert that showed weeks before the new years countdown here in Holland. Its a safety advise on how (not) to handle fireworks.
