You can compare a 9600 dpi scanning at vimeo.com/22015773
This is just a test to see the results using the lowest 2400 dpi settings for scanning super 8 film with CineToVid version 5 Java software and Epson V500 scanner. (To work with the CineToVidPro software you must scan at 3200 dpi or higher).
Due to the V500 scanner resolution limits there is no such a big diference in scanning at 2400 dpi or 9600 dpi. Of course 9600 dpi give better results, but not that better...
My conclusion is working with 3200 dpi will be good enough for DVD quality output. 3200 dpi extracts 530 horizontal lines from super 8 frame and after some cropping you will get the DVD 480 lines. I think the higher 9600 and 6400 dpi are for critical work, big screen projection / bluray output.
