This video was my final project for Gail Anderson’s ’Just Type’ class in the SVA MFA Designer as Author program. The assignment was to use only black and white type to make a music video. I made an animation for Björk’s song ’Öll Birtan’ from her 2004 album ’Medúlla’ using Caslon, DuerersMinuskeln, Giddyup, Gotham, and Perisphere typefaces. ’Öll Birtan’ means ’all the brightness’ in Icelandic. The song has no lyrics, only gibberish. Björk says the song is about her experience of overcoming her initial shyness while writing her first all-vocal album at the age of 18.
