Most of big cities were built beside the river. But Łódź, for the lack of big river is placed along Piotrkowska street. This main road became a kind of spine to the city, which growing during last 200 years, from a little village had changed to big industrial Moloch. Textile industry, and increasing fortunes of its owners created big factories, rich palaces and city buildings, as well as family houses for workers. The best architects of Europe arose the proud Piotrkowska street, dressed it with eclectic and secessional architectural lace. Now, when textile industry had gone, city is cuddling itself to tracery of Piotrkowska street and looking for what to do next.
