INTELLIGENT AND RESTRAINED TELEVISION AND RADIO COVERAGE RESPECTFUL OF THE TRUTH AND HORROR OF THE EVENTS OF 9/11
Listeners and viewers heard from eloquent eyewitnesses at key points during the early coverage. There was superb analysis of both anti-Arab feelings among Americans and anti-American feelings in Arab nations. ABC News correspondents drew on the depth of their experience: notably, John Miller’s reporting on Osama bin Laden and Ann Compton’s live reports aboard Air Force One with President Bush. Equally important was Peter Jennings’ special broadcast, Answering Children’s Questions, continuing the exemplary tradition of addressing the information needs of all Americans just four days after the attacks.
Taken from the 2003 duPont-Columbia Awards Ceremony, here is a hard to find excerpt of the ABC News Town Hall meeting Peter Jennings anchored for children and their families.
