The first COVOX analyser was commissioned in the United Kingdom in 1985 by the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary. Their brief: ‘provide a system that will enable us to measure accurately and scientifically, cardiovascular fitness in Police Officers’. Further commissions followed; in the early days mainly from the educational sector. The analyser has evolved into a ruggedised system, ideal for educational use and the demanding role required by the fitness professional and corporate user.
The COVOX analyser is simple to use. Special technical skills are not required to maintain correct function. All the sensitive instrumentation, including an embedded single board industrial computer, is contained within a single aluminium enclosure. Where portability is essential the analyser can also be fitted with a flat panel display.
Pulmonary ventilation (VE) is measured on inspiration using a Hans Rudolph triple screen pneumotach. In Mixed Expired Air analysis, (sample line B) the subject breaths directly into the mixing chamber. An air sample is drawn off via the Change Over Solenoid Valve and presented for gas analysis. In Breath by Breath analysis, (sample line A) the expired air sample is taken directly from the breathing valve and presented for rapid gas analysis.
