See all Show me
Some of my old experiments with deployable, transformable and bistable structures, auxetics and linkages. One day I might get back to developing some of these further, but until then I thought rather than let them sit and gather dust I'd put them up here, in case anyone else is interested. I'd be happy to share the folding/cutting patterns if you want to make your own.

Woah, you are seriously bringing me back to another time in my life! My grandfather was seriously into doing this kind of stuff.

    Impressive!

They're amazing! I'd be really interesting in seeing the patterns for some of the simpler ones.

    Great work!

    Thanks guys!
Here are the patterns for some of the paper folding:

    spacesymmetrystructure.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/foldingpatterns.pdf

(The top row shows what you fold. The images below show how they deform. Black lines=mountain folds, Grey=Valleys)

I'll post some patterns for the others soon

Fantastic. Those "skins" must have some engineering applications. You should show these to someone as NASA.

    Thanks for all the encouragement.
Here is a clearer folding pattern (for the surface in the thumbnail) - just print out and fold along the lines (solid lines up, dotted down)

Thanks people, glad you like it. I would be very happy if this inspires others to develop things further.
In terms of more information, you could start with some of the links here:

daniel your video is amazing, I also do some things like that, but I was impressed with all the possibilities and forms that unfold in the video, well and I wanted to ask a favor, if you can explain me better as do the linkage of first pyramid that appears in the video and the last form that unfolds in the video, I would be very grateful, because it is for a job for the college.
thank you very much from chile
