J.M. “Buddy” Phillips, of Tallahassee, Florida, known fondly as the “Sheriff of Florida,” was appointed by two different governors to serve as interim sheriff in six other counties at different times throughout his career (serving twice in Charlotte County), and is the only person in Florida’s history to serve as Sheriff in seven counties. For nearly 20 yrs he was the Executive Director of The Florida Sheriffs Association.
