Does Steve use Nikon gear? Or is it Canon? I don't recall him using Leica.

I think he currently uses Nikon. But the majority of his work (and his best, in my opinion) comes from his Kodachrome days, when he used Leicas (I think).

I don't believe that gears really is the issue here. Steve is beyond this discussion. In fact, I think he should be honored by all brands of the market! lol

Inspirational, a constant source of reference, Mr McCurry's portfolio should be viewed as a font of photographic knowledge. The depth of his travels surely places him at the top of the documentarian genre. This retrospective is a must see. ✪MP.

It's the photogrpahy not the cameras. Steve is abstract from having to have to use something to shoot. If what Steve use does not botehr Leica, why bother the rest.

Steve McCurry is truly one of the greatest photographers to ever pick up a camera.

    Steve doesn't shoot a Leica.

He did shoot many, many rolls of Kodachrome, including the very last one from Kodak, who awarded him that privilege. These are his results: tinyurl.com/4jqe5y7

Leica should consider also given deserved credit to the musicians (or at least the ensemble) from which they borrowed, probably without approval, license, or other compensation, the music for this footage. It's obviously the "Adagio for Strings, Opus 11" by American composer, Samuel Barber. I'm sure the recording is not in the public domain.

Hello and many thanks for the head-up. We have now taken care of the music rights situation and credited Samuel Barber in th eintroduction text.
    Best regards from Solms, ^JJ

Commendable. But I think most people will know the piece. You still should credit the ensemble, as was done in this video: tinyurl.com/39l8el

In part the point is "service to the brand" so if his career was not spent using Leica then it's BS on the part of Leica to promote him in this way. We all agree he's an amazing photographer. I love Leica but sometimes they amaze me with their crap

The Afghan girl photos at the end were shot with a Nikon FM2: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afghan_Girl

He's a photographer, not a Leica employee. I think that's the point of the award

My eyes are wet. Makes you humble about your own skill as a photog. Inspiring at the very least.
