"The Piece 10_4[16] and JOANK marimbas were inspired by two events in my life: a commission by the Zeitkratzer ensemble, and the birth of my daughter Johanna.
The original piece "Monads, like bees on the limb of a tree" and JOANK marimbas are related. "Monads,..." is written for pitched noise and JOANK marimbas for pitches. JOANK is a huge canon put together using a graphic / mobile form that is changing slowly over time with all of the possible systems permutations possible simultaneously.
In the video that I created for 10_4[16] and JOANK marimbas I am trying to show visually what was in my mind as I heard this music. JOANK is my impression of how my work might have sounded to my daughter in the
womb.
