Interstate Love Song was written by Robert DeLeo and Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots.

I recently joined Vanderbilly, a free web site where guitarists contribute instructional videos. This is a lesson that I recently published there; it's an STP (Stone Temple Pilots) piece that features the most ingenious guitar melody ever written in the 1990's, with its descending diminished/augmented chord sequence that seems to cover ever hue between C# minor seventh and A ninth.

In the lyrics below, the guitar chords are spelled out from lowest pitch to highest.

C# minor seventh (C#-G#-B-E) Waiting...on a
C minor augmented (C-G#-C-D#) Sunday afternoon, for
B ninth diminished (B-F-G#-C#) What I read between your
A# minor seventh diminished (A#-E-G#-C#) Lines...your
A suspended second (A-E-A-B) Lies
E Major (E-B-E-G#-B-E)
E 13 (E-C#-F#-A-B-E)
E Major (E-E-G#-B-B-E)

C# minor seventh (C#-G#-B-E) Feelin' like a
C minor augmented (C-G#-C-D#) Hand in rusted shame, so
B ninth diminished (B-F-G#-C#) Do you laugh or does it
A# minor seventh diminished (A#-E-G#-C#) Cry
Re- A suspended second (A-E-A-B) -ply
E Major (E-B-E-G#-B-E)
E 13 (E-C#-F#-A-B-E)
E Major (E-E-G#-B-B-E)

C# minor seventh (C#-G#-B-E) Leavin' on a
E Major (E-B-E-G#-B-E) Southern train, only
A suspended second (A-E-A-B) Yesterday...you
G# suspended fourth (G#-D#-G#-C#-D#-G#) Lied
G# Major (G#-D#-G#-C-D#-G#)
A Major (A-E-A-C#-E-A) Promises of what I
E Major (E-B-E-G#-B-E) Seemed to be, only
A suspended second (A-E-A-B) Watched the time go
G# suspended fourth By
G# Major (G#-D#-G#-C-D#-G#)
A Major (A-E-A-C#-E-A) All of these things you
E Major (E-B-E-G#-B-E) Said to me

C# minor seventh (C#-G#-B-E) Breathing...is the
C minor augmented (C-G#-C-D#) Hardest thing to do, with
B ninth diminished (B-F-G#-C#) All I've said and all that's dead
A# minor seventh diminished For you...you
A suspended second (A-E-A-B) Lied
E Major (E-B-E-G#-B-E)
E 13 (E-C#-F#-A-B-E)
E Major (E-E-G#-B-B-E)
Good- A suspended second (A-E-A-B) -bye
E Major (E-B-E-G#-B-E)
E 13 (E-C#-F#-A-B-E)
E Major (E-E-G#-B-B-E)

C# minor seventh (C#-G#-B-E) Leavin' on a
E Major (E-B-E-G#-B-E) Southern train, only
A suspended second (A-E-A-B) Yesterday...you
G# suspended fourth (G#-D#-G#-C#-D#-G#) Lied
G# Major (G#-D#-G#-C-D#-G#)
A Major (A-E-A-C#-E-A) Promises of what I
E Major (E-B-E-G#-B-E) Seemed to be, only
A suspended second (A-E-A-B) Watched the time go
G# suspended fourth By
G# Major (G#-D#-G#-C-D#-G#)
A Major (A-E-A-C#-E-A) All of these things I
E Major (E-B-E-G#-B-E) Said to you
