The images used in this animation were taken in 2004 and are of a petroglyph panel located in a cave in the Mimbres Valley of New Mexico. The panel is seven meters long and impossible to see or photograph from a single vantage point. Using Structure from Motion (SfM) technology, it was possible to create a 3D rendering of the entire rock art panel for virtual examination.
This work was originally sponsored by the El Paso Museum of Archaeology and made possible by the efforts of archaeologist Marc Thompson.
