As a Muslim, Salmaa Elshanshory found herself facing negative stereotypes after 9/11, but as an American, she was also encouraged by the outpouring of patriotism and support she saw across the country following the attacks. Growing up as part of "Generation 9/11," Salmaa was inspired to study abroad in college to counter the misperceptions people had about Muslims and Americans.
