Fishhooks, fishing line, and birds do not mix well. This video shows bird rescue volunteers from the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary of Indian Shores and from Save Our Seabirds in Sarasota working on the south fishing pier of the Skyway Bridge. The hooked and injured pelicans are sometimes released on the spot if not badly injured. Others have to be taken to the seabird hospital for treatment and eventual return to the wild. Most of the pelicans treated have multiple hook and line injuries in varying stages of healing or infection.
