After much debate, I decided to do my photo essay from the comfort of my hometown, Sag Harbor, NY. Sag Harbor is a small town located on the end of the south fork of Long Island. Being that I grew up surrounded by water I thought it might be interesting to dig for some hidden story/ deeper truth about the beautiful beaches that gave me all the wonderful freckles on my face and arms that I am forever stuck with. So I decided to take my camera down to Havens Beach aka Tides Beach (what I knew it as growing up). The beach is located on Bay Street which is one of the main streets in the village of Sag Harbor. I swam at this beach as a child, in fact it was walking distance from the home that I grew up in.
There was something that always interested me about this specific location... But it was not until the last year or two that the town put up a sign regarding this little yet important fact about our local beach, the sign warned the public of one minor detail...The bacteria ridden storm drain that flows conveniently into the blue tide.
