Whitney Museum @ Altria: Performances on 42nd Street
Judith Sanchez Ruiz and Dafnis Prieto, January 31, 2007
Judith Sanchez Ruiz will collaborate with composer/percussionist Dafnis Prieto to create a new site-specific dance-music piece. The two young collaborators, both Cuban-born, represent a fresh aesthetic and an integrated approach to co-creating a work.
“ Their art is complicated, precise and subtle at the same time. The mutual comunication and the interaction on the stage are incredible”.
Performers: Ermira Gorou, Leah Morrison and Judith Sanchez Ruiz.
Musicians : Dafnis Prieto (Drums) Dana Leong (Cello)
"Judith Sánchez Ruíz's choreography did take into account the challenges of the space….the highlight of the evening involved gymnastically employing the railings of the front entrance into the dancer’s moves. Grammy nominated Dafnis Prieto is an emerging percussion star…. There is music to be heard every night in New York, but not every show can be transcendent. Wednesday in the Altria, we could give credit for effort and ambition, and then call it a night".
