Edit of footage shot with an FS100 at the Fulcrum/JBVCOACHING Cyclocross Clinic. I didn't have a plan except I was invited to come to the clinic by the talented Chris Mayhew who coaches me from time to time when his boss John Verhuel isn't.

Jeremy Powers made the show with his amazing love for the sport of Cyclocross shining through in every frame. Such a professional. Rapha, Focus, you lucky, lucky people.

Jeremy is sponsored by Rapha. I don't own any of their products...(ahem)

TECH

I can confirm that the FS100 is indeed a camera. I had it for the weekend and really didn't get a chance to rig it to my liking. I was most curious about how it handled in general, how it handled motion and how it handled being run around with all fracking day in full heat and humidity, it was rather hot. Primary focus was on using the S&Q setting on the camera and also experimenting with a 45 degree shutter. I only used one battery and shot from 8:30am until 7pm.

I used 4 lenses all canon mount lenses the 24-70L, the 70-200L, the Tokina 11-16 2.8 and the ducloslenses.com moded Zeiss 50 1.4 ZF with a permanent Canon mount

In order to shoot at a 2.8-1.4 in various lighting conditions I had to use a 1.2 ND and 0.3 ND filter stacked in a Cokin p-filter holder (note to self, buy mattebox asap) and it worked out rather well. The camera is astonishingly well suited for low light but really, really, really, should have had ND built in. You'll see where it blows out occasionally when the sun comes from behind a cloud killing shots, but I used em anyway.

I shot in the AbelCine tech AB_HiLit Picture Profile (you can check out ABs FS100 Picture Profiles here blog.abelcine.com/2011/07/25/fs100-scene-files-from-abelcine/ ) and the footage is pretty much undisturbed except for a the first half or so where I put Curves on just to look at range and for the hell of it.

Not really a proper edit, I am still learning Premiere and that still feels like brushing someone else's teeth. But I figured that it would be best if something was edited before I forgot I shot this...(its happened). So I am getting something out there for my (CycloCross) people since this will most likely make them all hot and bothered and ready to run around in spandex at a European tractor pull. AKA, the best sport there is.

Hup. Hup. Buttercup. (as they say in the Boulder)

Thanks Henry. Its been quite a few years. The internet may be ready for HD Cyclocross again. I have to make time to resurrect the old project.

    Lookin good!

Got some blow out with the skies I see; an extra couple of stops of ND would have helped. This camera is incredibly sensitive; I find I need to expose darker than I'm used to.
  • SuperLuminal Films pro 5 months ago
I let those shots in and I don't mind overexposing the sky for something like this. I did have ND 1.2 and a 0.3 in btw.

    Thanks Paul.

Yeah sometimes I find I need an 1.8 and a .6 or .9 stacked in bright sun (that's at F2.8). But I understand now that you left it in for effect. Made me want to ride a bike again. :)

You're far better with Premiere than I am but I'm trying to learn it...

It's been a couple of try's with Premiere, unlearning 10 yrs of FCP has been hard, and AJA is still not behaving. It's pretty solid once you are into it and I edited this in native AVCHD, Which was NICE.

    1.8. That's a lot of ND.

really good enjoyed it. Not a cross man myself but it looked very interesting.

Thanks David, cross is addicting and fun. You're always in the race both spectating and racing. Go to a race you'll be hooked.

Looks great. Way too hard on yourself. Your capture and cut of the event tells the story well.
  • SuperLuminal Films pro 5 months ago
Thank you Hans, but what I had in mind and what I did are always a little different. But to get better, you have to want more from yourself.

    thank you for the support!

Thank you Jon, I had no idea that this test would be so popular. The music is from a talented composer from LA. Check him out.
