Not sure about TOS, but an excellent example of a good TNG episode is "The Inner Light" tinyurl.com/2crtkz . My girlfriend likes it and she's also not normally into Trek. It might have special appeal since it also centers around a musical instrument.

Have you listened to Pavement's version of "The Killing Moon"? It was good of them to fulfill the potential that song had.
  • Mikael Johansson 10 months ago
Pavement's version is better in my opinion. Malkmus makes the song special with his stylings. But maybe that's because I'm a Pavement freak.

I like both versions a lot. And, I, too am a Pavement freak.

But wouldn't you end up with double dick points then? One for being t-shirt dick, and one for being tattoo dick?

Thanks for the Chet Atkins link. Cool stuff. If you haven't checked it out, you might want to give a listen to "Neck and Neck" Chet Atkins and Mark Knoppler. Lot's of fun.

Hang on. You segued from a mini anti-tattoo rant to a significant Star Wars lingo/fact checking correction moment? Really? I barely have a dog in either fight. But pitting 'tribal guy' vs. 'Chewbacca guy' ... easy choice. Unpleasant. But easy.

A good TOS episode is "The City on the Edge of Forever". Harlan Ellison co-wrote it.

I bought a Svenning chair from Ikea once, and it worked great until the hydaulic height adjustment thingy failed. I guess that's what I get for buying the cheapest rolling chair there. But the meatballs do kick ass.

I dislike tattoos as well, but I think a recursive tattoo would be awesome.

Also, thank you for pronouncing my name right. That made my day.

FWIW, I also bought the same model and had the same component fail. Ikea furniture is o.k. so long as you don't plan on keeping it during a move. It's just not very durable stuff. Good furniture you can pass on to your children.

Wow I remember going back to England in 1985 age 19 and hanging out in a Brighton club watching Echo & the Bunnymen and getting royally drunk and made out with a guy who was an epileptic.

I never realized that Ze Frank was a pioneer in men's hairstyles. Battle of East Coast vs. West Coast bedhead is imminent.

I think that you're either were a fan of Star Wars or Star Trek. It's hard to find someone who is rabid about both.
  • Merlin Mann plus 10 months ago
It's a really good point. And it does kinda seem like you don't meet many people who were WAY into both, right?

In an odd way two of these points converge. When you have a tattoo (like me) you spend a lot of time slagging off other peoples tatts. "That guy has someones name on his. What an idiot." "That guy has ROCK on the knuckles of one hand. Has he got YIII on the other. Huh huh huh." "Look over there! Tramp stamp!"

My tattoos however are tasteful and faultless. Yeah right.

I too dig the Crowded House. Mark Hart is the a talented musician. And now they have Beck's previous drummer, Matt. Good stuffs.

Kept thinking of fight club's ikea scene during your ikea praise situation. This stuff is so friend though! I don't use beds and am not a big furniture fan. haha! :D But did the ikea thing a year ago. My bed is no angled up on the side (retired) kind of creating a barricade mini room sector). DESKS. I like desks a LOT, but no beds. No house furniture. I got one lamp from home depot. and another PERFECTLY good lamp in the dumpster (cleaned it off...totally workable). But yeah...funny in the first segment you said you hadn't said anything but the story was interesting and cool. I haven't made a tattoo ultimatum yet. The ink-plastered full arm ones are vile and quite disgusting. Some tattoos are absurd and ridiculous. Well-thought out small "polite" tattoos with poignant meaning can be somewhat cool. Got into star trek in 07 hadn't seen full episode till 07, saw about over 50 full episodes. TNG was only interest. Picard and Data. Favorite episode By Far was Time's Arrow where data is trapped in San Fran. Love the time-traveling ones. "Most Days" is the closest thing to telly I watch these days now, though! I do not watch "non-internet" television and haven't for over a year.
