About Semester at Sea: Founded in 1963, Semester at Sea is the world’s premier global comparative education program. Open to students of all majors from around the world, the University of Virginia is the program’s academic sponsor. The program sails four academic voyages per year. Semester at Sea is administrated by the non-profit Institute for Shipboard Education (ISE) based in Charlottesville, Virginia.
