Sam from Corridor Digital contacted me through Twitter/Email and we were discussing how he was going to incorporate Trapcode Form into his upcoming video as a visual effect rather than motion graphics. A few days after the video launch, I was requested by many to do a tutorial over the lasers and Sam was gracious enough to send me a few assets including still frames of the shot!

    Very cool!

An alternate to using Layer Maps to animate a value is the Quick Maps. There's a new "Map Offset" specifically to save on the task having a gradient wipe nested in another comp.

Just use that 2nd graph (the linear max to min) and animate the offset up or down. It's pretty much identical to the gradient wipe you've got here.

Again.. great work. Thanks for posting this!

It's an honor for you to leave a feedback comment Harry! Yes, I learned about this new Map Offset feature in your Form 2 videos on RGTV, great stuff! I was trying not to use so much of Form 2 just in case people still had Form 1.x.

    Thanks for the feedback!

Nicely done. Enjoyed this tutorial. Was wondering if there is a way to create this type of laser light effect? youtu.be/yKk69u99WTM Or a way to incorporate these techniques to create something like the video I linked.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words! That laser light effect you mention is a little bit different, it seems like a lens streak or a beam of light with a lot of glow. The 'energy' connecting the lasers could be achieved with some adjustments with Vector Blur.
