A video from our yesterday's visit to Santa Cruz's Beach Boardwalk. Unfortunately, no tripods were allowed, so all shots are either handheld or with the camera sitting on top of trash cans.

Music and video are licensed separately under the Creative Commons "BY" 3.0 license.

What a great video. Always love the way you compose and frame your shots. Awesome edit!

Eugenia Loli-Queru Quixote - You have such a gift. You have the eye and the rhythm. I pray you can keep on track and really produce more video that can lift the spirits of the folks who watch. It is a wonderful gift. From the natural things of the ocean to the heart beat of the people of the board walk. Santa Cruz should pay you a bundle for promoting them.

Very nice - loved all those close-ups and how you edited it. Great colors too.

However, that Euro trash music is just awful :D Didn't suit your beautiful footage at all...
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 10 months ago
I first tried to find some "Carousel-like" music in the Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) library, but there was nothing like it. I think that this CC-BY track gives an urban style though, which isn't too bad. The musician is Brazilian btw. ;)
  • Steve plus 7 months ago
I liked the music I think it all depends on your taste...I thought it was fitting.
BTW this music is hardly Euro Trash...its not Trance than Euro Trash...now if she used WHAT IS LOVE...than I might agree =)

Nice video. Those shots when people were spinning very fast were my favorite... Music did the job too.
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 10 months ago
Thanks! Believe it or not, the very-fast spinning shots are real time! I did not fast-motioned the footage! I probably would have come out of this spinner full of stomach contents all over me...

Nice. Trance music is not an exact fit indeed, but I like trance, so I may be biased.

This is a nice Carousel song, but I don't believe it to be Creative Commons BY-licensed. It has to be a CC-BY song, otherwise I can't legally use it and distribute my video with that license. I am careful to specifically license my videos, in order for others to use them legally.

Nice Eugenia. What about monopods? Are they allowed? I use one often these days and they don't get in people's way like tripods. I love how that angle at 3.00 where you have three different rotations going.
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 10 months ago
Not sure if they are allowed. It would depend on the guard I guess...

You should invest in a monopod, tell them it's your walking cane and use it to bring in some stabilization, problem solved! cool vid!
  • ZhiC 10 months ago
haha never thought of that one.. good idea :)
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 10 months ago
I have a monopod, but I can't lie. Being Greek I am street smart, but my (French) husband doesn't approve of such behavior. ;)

Where do you get your music? Are you using a 35mm adapter for the DOF?
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 10 months ago
The music information is in the credits. More info also here about the music I use: osnews.com/story/20575/Guide_to_Creative_Commons_Media_for_Videographers

I do not use a 35mm adapter. All shallow DoF you see there is coming from a bare HV20 after zooming at around 75% or more. I also use an ND filter when shooting outdoors.

May be for still standing shots- but really not for this fast moving speed sceenes.

60i, 1/2000th shutter speed or cinemode. Neutral color.

Thanks Eugenia. I was afraid you were going to say something like that. As I will be using Final Cut Express 4.0. I would love to be able to use Magic Bullet products.
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 10 months ago
FCE doesn't have MB, but it has enough color tools to be able to color grade it manually. The only thing really missing from FCE in my opinion is true 24p editing support. Make sure you update it to the latest version btw after you install it from the CD.
  • Steve Henry plus 10 months ago
Well, someone told me it worked with FCE 4.0.1 (even tho Red Giant told me it was for FCP only) and I took a chance and bought MB Looks. It works pretty good with FCE. I love Looks and may buy FCP someday, but now I'll just keep using Express.

And Eugenia, this was SOOO good. I loved it.

Although this is the first of your work and for that matter anyone's work at all here I've commented on, I've viewed many of your video's and enjoyed them all. This one is no exception. Love how you make simple items in a scene become much more interesting than I remember them being.

Hey Eugenia, very nice video. What settings did you use on your HV20? I know your not a fan of CINE mode. Thx
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 9 months ago
I actually am a fan of cinemode now, I wasn't in the beginning, but this has changed. However, the video was shot in 1/2000th shutter speed TV Mode because I needed the high frame rate for these shots.
  • D Gates 8 months ago
I find cinemode is good for low light, at least in my tests. Sure the picture is not as bright, but there is also no harsh noise.
  • Jedd Goble plus 2 months ago
You use an ND filter and 1/2000th shutter? I'd assume this allows your aperture to be wide open then. What ND filter do you use?
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 2 months ago
    A Tiffen 0.4 one.
