One could never rationalize the perception of a spatial experience, but could one, perhaps metaphorically translate it through memory?
In Dozenfields, I was inspired to explore the numerous possibilities of painting within the structure of the moving image, I wanted to stretch its boundaries, by working both with the frame and the screen as a moving canvas; utilizing the linearity of time, the verticality and horizontality in the space visible and invisible to the eye. The locations and imagery would seem at first static, yet their movement and timing would encapsulate and condense an eternal moment.
DOZEN FIELDS aims to create a distinction between uninterrupted space and a given personal place. Six different screens either projected or housed inside a box are transformed recreating moving canvases; Ripples of water and electrical stairways split and shift creating fragments of space that contain time in it; others just show time passing by in forms of raindrops, steam or shadows of trees inside a corridor. Sound becomes the unifying factor between space, time and memory. DOZENFIELDS is conceived to function as 6 individual hypnotic canvases or as elements of larger, simultaneous projections. These multi part environments consist of moving sequences created with digital video and played directly from a Hard drive that has been housed in a VIDEO BOX accessible via a touch-screen allowing the viewer to access and chose the environment they want to find themselves in.
Dozenfields is a series of six video loops entitled: Meno male che ci sei, Beaubourg, Corridor, Raindrops, Ripple and Ephemera. The average duration of each video loop is one minute and a half. BEAUBOURG: Electrical stairways and its ghostly passengers swing between the verticality and horizontality of the screen. CORRIDOR: A mirrored hallway remains static while the breeze gently animates some tree shadows. RIPPLE: Water waves rhythmically coincide with the music vibration. RAINDROPS: multiple raindrops freeze in the air each becoming a single event. MENO MALE CHE CI SEI: A green ball playfully traverses the space in a swimming pool. EPHEMERA: Cold air clashes with a heated swimming pool creating some steam, very subtly a palm tree reflects upside down.
