Augmented Reality DIY Experiment 0005 - BuildAR
11 months ago
Found another application to create Augmented Reality, this one is called BuildAR from HITLabNZ. This software is really easy to use and has a very simple interface. It is much more stable compared to ARtag demo. The AR object does not flicker or jitter as much.
There are aplently of nice features out of the box, like ability to scale, position and rotate your 3D objects. You could import animated OSG file and typical textured 3D OBJ file format and right away assign your own AR marker for reference. The tree view is also very useful to keep track on the AR scene you are building.
The BuildAR marker is very sensitive to white and black colour, so the marker works well when you have the square black mark over white/britgtly coloured background.
I am really excited to stumble into HITLabNZ, and it seemed to be the place I'd like to go to further research and study on AR. It is located in New Zealand unfortunately, but not that far from Australia. Hopefully I could save some money to study my PhD over there. That's really what I have in mind at the moment.
You could download BuildAR here:

Another thought, after years of my study related to CG especially on artistic side, I found out that no matter what, you will always stumble upon programming and scripting, which means there is always a technical side to inspire you in creating more creative works. And what amazes me, is that no matter what, the ability to draw plays a major role in communicating ideas.
Anyway, that's a little thought that I wrote here for my own note.
