January 22 – May 31, 2009

/description from museum website/
Translated from Italian, “dare alla luce” is an idiomatic expression for giving birth: “to give to the light.” Drawing upon late Renaissance artist Jacopo Tintoretto’s painting The Origin of the Milky Way for inspiration, Greer recounts her own version of the Roman myth in which the milk of Juno’s breast rose to the sky to create the galaxy. Through countless small gestures of her craft, Greer employs humble handicraft processes and materials, executing her work through crochet, braiding, sewing and beading processes that use yarn, beads, shells, feathers and more. Merging the mythical and the mundane, Greer collapses the language and materials of the ordinary with the spectacular and the epic. The resulting work intertwines objects and space, resulting in an exuberant, sensual and visceral installation.

Organized and commissioned by Bellevue Arts Museum and curated by Stefano Catalani, Mandy Greer: Dare alla Luce is accompanied by an exhibition catalogue produced by Bellevue Arts Museum. The catalog will be available for purchase in The Gallery January 2009.

    Holy Mackerel! Beautiful work!
what cam are you shooting this on?
    Thanks for letting me know
    really great to see this!

Hey Chris. Thanks! I've been shooting lots on my new HD camera, a Panasonic HPX-170. I know I've gone on and on about HD vs. SD in the forums... but an opportunity came via a grant to upgrade some hardware.

The camera is definitely bringing much clarity to the images that I'm shooting. The artists I've been documenting deserve the extra pixel power. I still have the standard-def DVX100a and plan to rent it out to whomever needs a solid 24p camera. I'll also be using it together with the new cam.

The Image Quality is killer! My fren who does sound for all sorts of folks for history chan & Discovery chan says so many film makers are using that unit I can see why.
Is it a P2 card like a 16Gb 8? must look great BIG too.
It's like night & day dooode! Beautiful.
    Was that Kamala a G7? G9?
    Thanks again.

Yeah these cameras are built pretty tough. Some folks are talking about it feeling cheap but really it is such a big improvement over the 200 or 100. Not as many plastic parts and now that there are very little moving parts, since there is no tape drive, it just feels extra solid.

The cards that I am using are 16gb. I own 1 and I borrow more if I need to. Pricey cards. I needed to get a new tripod and head first before buying another card.

Kamala is using a Panasonic LX2.
