Hurricane Irene brought devastation to many in Vermont. One young couple who had started a CSA lost not only their home and crops but 6 acres of their 9-acre farm. On the edge of the Northeast Kingdom, we suffered less damage. One farm in East Hardwick lost 25-30,000 in crops not yet harvested. In contrast we only lost power for a few hours.
How would a loon family fare in a 36 hour downpour? I went out the next morning to check on the pond and the loons. My morning on the pond offered more drama than I'd seen in weeks. Perhaps the hurricane brought intruding visitors displaced from their usual habitat.
