Bordering Russia and Mongolia, the Zhalong wetlands in China's north-eastern Heilongjiang province, are threatened by reducing water levels and increased human activity.

Local water diversion projects, coupled with climate change are threatening the wetlands and many of the species that call these lands home, including China's symbolic Red-crowned Crane.
