What a ripping video to accompany serious OFWGKTA talent. Good to see an Aussie director getting it done in the USA Hip Hop realm. Keep it up!

You blew up a car. That's exactly what I wanted to do in a music video. I really like this one.

INITIAL reaction: Does anyone else feel like Frank Ocean's taking the whole indie/being different thing a bit too far in this video? I understand the need to be original, but some of the aspects of this video just seem excessively "weird" to the point that the story's more perplexing than contemplative.

I love Nabil's work and Ocean's lyrics, but this video just isn't what I hoped especially after Novacane. Not to mention very similar visual effects to Novacane like the fading.
  • nabil elderkin plus 5 months ago
werrrd! i respect your opinion. but dont know about the fading comment? not to much logic to the statement.. sorry to perplex u also.. sometimes people make thing to experiment with new things! i know i do.. :) all the best
  • Sylvester N 5 months ago
Oh, what i was referring to is how I noticed several similar elements to Novacane. Specifically, the fading in and out of scenes, and the transparent scenes to tell a back story of some sort that includes a female character. (1:25 in Novacane and 3:05 in this video for example of the fading and color effects I mentioned).

But yeah, overall this is a beautiful video. I've followed your work on here for 4 years now, and don't doubt your creativity one bit. I just thought I'd share some thoughts on how this video gave me very similar feelings/reactions to the last Ocean piece you did.

How do you achieved the effect at 0:22??? Although...nice piece!!! Kudos!!!
  • nabil elderkin plus 5 months ago
i think it is just the negative image if that is what u are referring to ... invert the image
  • Jay Kevin Composta plus 5 months ago
Yes!!! But also the transition effect on 0:18!!! Did you use photoshop or a plug in???
  •
  • Yo Nabil! I like you work - ALOT - your photography too - I'm a Kenyan filmmaker & photographer - Holla when you come to Nairobi -

one of the best tunes out there really. video very very poor. visually, colour wise, totally irrelevant to the song, weird, not artistic or original, would not watch it again, lame angles and looks very unprofessional. Im sure was pricy as well. car explosion and all. Lots of pop effects tried to copy MTV vids. Now imagine if the song was different. some native indian tune. lol wud be veeeryyy interesting :D Looks crappppppppp. cmon guys home made vids on vimeo are better and u all know it. no offense to anyone but honestly. was gonna post it on my facebook wall when i saw theres a video for this song but forget it. not worth it. would just ruin my friends opinion on song cuz thats how human brain work
