Slow motion made in New York in 2008 with a cheap casio camera (EX-F1)
The shots were done at 240fps with a Merlin (from Steadicam).
Music: "Numb" by U2 (zooropa album)

How are you liking that Casio? It looks great as a cheap alternative.

And great job with the video, truly. Definitely enjoyed it a lot. How come there's no download. D:

Some great low-level shots, there. 300fps is very cool, now if only they could up the resolution at that frame rate...

if Casio ever need a promo vid to show off its models then..THIS is it .. simply stunning work.. one of the most Pro vids i have seen on this site.. i'm totally impressed with it ..superb colour,lighting,cinematography,editing...excellent choice of music and nice to include the credit on vid where so many people don't.

all round brilliant. thanks for the upload.

How do you film all that without getting crazy looks? Like the shot of the women walking... didn't they think you were......
  • erin byrnes 3 years ago
It's NY..... everyone is used to cameras of all sorts- tourist/movie/police. If we gave crazy looks to everyone taking pics/vids around us we'd always have crazy looks on our faces;)

    Wery Kewl!!

Did you use an upside down glidecam or tripod or just do a lot of crouching and covert shooting? I love the slo mo but hate the lo res. Can't wait for the next version of the camera! Great work, excellent post and wonderful eye!

Any color correction on this? If so, can i ask what you used or was it a camera setting to get that tone? Well done. There's something about slow-motion. It's stopping to smell the roses without actually stopping. Really creates a different perspective. Beautifully done.

I don't wanna be that naysayer guy, but this doesn't look like 300fps, it looks more like 60-80fps.
  • i agree
  • Joan pro 5 months ago
    I desagree ... ;) I'm a Casio Exilim & this is the true effect ...
When you put a clip with 240 fps in a timeline at 29,97 fps this is the effect you get ... :p
  • Brandt Bethune 4 months ago
Why would you put a 240fps clip at 29.97, that's like a perfect conversion to 24fps.

Also, I still refuse to believe this is a true 240 fps. I've shot 35mm film at 60fps and it was slower than this when slowed to 24fps. I think Casio is just lying about it's true framerate. Do that math. 240 frames per second slowed to 29.97, would make a second long shot 8+ seconds long, so 5 seconds of shot would be 40 seconds long. So unless these people are like running full speed with a steady-cam rig, impossible.

Beautifully shot, beautifully composed whatever, video, the quality didn't both me. Just done some research on the EX-F1 (just type this into your search bar), interesting review about it on gizmodo.com (not my own website), seems to be a hybrid still camera\camcorder - not that cheap.
For what this is worth, I just bought a small pen sized camcorder for covert footage like the footage in this video, cost me about £20.00 (about $40.00 USD). The quality is pretty terrible but I have a theory that if the shots are good enough - if they capture interesting people and their emotions, the kind of shots that you wouldn't be able to capture with a full-sized camcorder because full-sized camcorders are too noticable, the quality isn't that important.

Hi, I think you are confusing frames per second with shutter speed. The camera used for this video has some fancy new sensor which allows it to shot at high frame rates. Video cameras on the other hand usually have a a fixed one of say 25. The shutter speed is how fast each of those frames are shoot.
To get slow motion out of dv video camera you will need to use programs like after effects.
    hope this helps

Wow! This is awesome. Really great shots. A bet you had many more, you picked a great selection. So many things happen in NY within 10 seconds, it's nice to have a slow motion view at them. This is very humane. Could be a real sweet music video.
