Extra-Lightweight, Extra-Innovative
The XXLite is a concept wing that is not yet for sale. The Ultralite series from Ozone has offered pilots the lightest certified paragliders in the world for four years in a row, but we wanted to take the idea of “Ultralite” to the next level: XXLite.

The XXLite is a single surface paraglider constructed from the most modern lightweight materials. It packs small enough to fit into a waist-bag and weighs a total of just 1.345kg for the 19m size. In flight, the current prototypes of the XXLite are somewhat “special” to fly, although the launch is the easiest we have ever seen – the wing seems to come up entirely on its own.

We currently do not have plans to sell this wing to the public but the development of the concept will continue and we will release more news as this interesting project advances.

Incredible !! You guys at Ozone have really the best ability to think "out of the box" currently... I thought the intrado was key to keep a clean airflow around the profile and reach a decent glide ratio but apparently it doesn't matter that much. I guess the tuning of this concept to reach a good safety level is still a challenge but, boy, what a good idea at least to try ! Thumbs up Ozone.

Kewl: YES! However, the airfoil form is NOT a true single-surface, as a distinct bottom surface is shown that is distinct from the top surface; the two surfaces begin at the aerodynamic stream separation point. Just wrapping material around a thick airfoil does not suffice for "single" surface. Please reserve "single-surface" for actual SSPG item. Best to you and your team on the project. True SSPGs will continue to occur as they have for hundreds of years; some evolution is left. Mixing DS with SS as one and the same is not nice to Mother Nature. The XXLite has double surface for what % of the chord?

Thumbs up Ozone once more!!! It looks like you never get tired, lucky us!!!

@Joe: please get of our backs.

Pretty amazing indeed. I actually wonder how the LE doesn't flex/buckle in the airflow as it doesn't have the same air (inner) pressure as a double surface wing.
Or maybe the folded LE creates some kind of rotor that pushes against the LE shape?... That's the amazing bit IMO.

Single surface PGs started in the 60's with David Barish's lovely parafoil, but bringing that concept to current performance demands is something that really shows that Ozone's R&D is amongst if not the best in the PG world.

Congrats, can't wait to see it for sale! (when should we expect a competition version of a single foil for xAlps? :) )

Amazing. Can we see one packed up please.

can we assume 'special' means 'test pilot required new underpants' ?

Lol, you made my day thanks.

R&D is the ultimate expression of science and OZONE is doing it amazingly well. In the last years every breakthru in paragliding technology is due to OZONE. And Im honest as you can see on my profile I own a diferent brand. One day I will be able to pay for an Ozone. Two thumbs up

So glad to see XXLite project that we put notice of it in three forums: Foildesign, AirborneWindEnergy, and LIFT.

The Malibu or Falcon of Paragliders. SSHG's are good for learning and low speed flight. This concept should do the same for PG... Good on you guys...

Mark Mitsos from the Mitsos reverse launch ?? If so thanks 1.000 x ! I use this for 13 years and could launch about anything with it...

    KFM airfoil profile?
  • Marko Stamenovic 5 months ago
Although it may look like one it is quite different. KM airfoils usually don't have chamber (not curved) but use step to create similar effect. This would be closer to early (Wright brothers) airfoils or airfoils found on birds wing with little different leading edge.

Yes, one may see KFm airfoil direction playing here. Good notice. Kline Fogleman airfoils in Google image search will give a show of the KFm family of airfoils. The KFm-1 begins to approximate what is occurring.

As you all said it, it's the simple ideea of the vortex behind the LE, and the KF airfoil MAGNIFICENTLY implemented into a paraglider. Whoever had that ideea deserves a beer from all flying people. (That will of course put him in the situation of having to distill water from beer for his household...haha..whatever..). Just one big problem with this wing: you can not "fly active", compensate the loss of pressure on one side by applying brake, you can not reinflate a partial collapse by increasing pressure on the uncollapsed side, a collapsed side will never come back on it's own, and sader still... i can't imagine any pilot action to help it come out. But on the other side... who the f. am I to tell... I could't even imagine such a wing flying, and I'm no aeronautical engineer either. Keep it up! Regards!

Hi Pascal, The same man... Still doing it... I fly an R10.2 at Stanwell, what a weapon... Bit harder to do A's and C's though... Just use some brake line with the back riser and it works OK...
Take care in the air... mitsi

WOW, that s the next step after Ultralite.... I have heard somewhere 1 liter packed, but could be a legend? I can't wait to see it, crazy projects could follow quickly.... 1 XXlite 1.34kg+0.350kg harness + 0.4kg bag=2kg for flying!!!! congrats!

What you guys come up with is awesome. I can't wait for this wing to come out. The day it comes out, I'm ordering one!!!! Thanks Ozone, for all the great stuff. Hopefully this wing doesn't take so long to come out.
