The Lower Cape May boys basketball team got its first victory over Cape May Tech in three seasons Thursday night, using sound defense and a balanced offense to post a 50-43 victory.
Brandon Pascucci hit four three-pointers and scored 15 points and Mike Pittman added 13 points and tough permiter defense to lead the Caper Tigers (6-5).
Lower led for most of the first half until an 11-4 Cape May Tech run put the Hawks ahead by a point at 22-21 midway through the second quarter. Lower, however, responded with a 10-0 run of its own to close the half and take a nine-point lead at the break. Tech got no close than four points in the second half.
Tom McKeffrey, Lower's 6-6 center, was held to just two points but managed 10 rebounds and five blocked shots. Pittman was also a key defensively for the Tigers, picking up six steals.
Aaron Freeman scored 16 points, Lou Sotomayor added 11 and Dom Fiorentino chipped in 10 points and 10 rebounds for Tech (7-5), which had more turnovers (22) than field goals (17).
Both teams each welcomed back key players. Cape May Tech's Robby Davis and Lower Cape May's Ernie Harper, who each had yet to play this season due to injuries suffered in the preseason, each played their first games of the season for their respective clubs.
