This interactive allows the visitor to piece together bones of a Mastodon skeleton unearthed by palaeontologists near Cranbrook. Virtual bones mimic the position and orientation of the actual bones within the surrounding display case. The visitor drags the virtual bones into a mastodon silhouette, once they are in place the skeleton transforms and ‘comes to life’. The interactive forms a conceptual link between the bones in the case and a life size mastodon a few feet away.

This interactive was created for The Our Dynamic Earth exhibit that opened in 1998 at the Cranbrook Institute of Science, Michigan USA. Occupying more than half of the Institute’s 27,000-square-foot addition, the exhibit comprises five zones that explore the interconnections of earth processes.
