Gillnets are indiscriminate methods of inland commercial fishing and they are not suitable for the unharmed sorting and release of non-targeted wild protected stocks. We are spending almost a $billion dollars annually for salmon recovery and yet we're still allowing the use of gillnets in our inland commercial fisheries. Did you know that 25 to 30% of your electric bill, if you live in the Pacific Northwest, goes toward salmon recovery and we're not getting our monies worth. Gillnets are one of the largest impediments to salmon and steelhead recovery and they should be banned in the Pacific Northwest.
