NCHA Youth Arts and Crafts, Fort Worth, Texas - July 2011
Just imagine 30 plus hammers banging on leather on the tables!
On July 14, we hosted the NCHA Youth Arts and Crafts program with a leather working seminar. The event was started by Jim Linnell of the Tandy corporation showing the kids about how leather working was accomplished. From casing the leather, letting it dry to be ready to tool and then using some stamps for creating designs. They were told to case their leather and with the tools create some patterns learning how hard to smack the stamps and how wet to have the leather. Left to stamp away they created some unusual patterns. The smiles on their faces told the whole picture of creative joy. Every one completed a billfold on their own & with assistance as needed.
Great jobs done by all.
Thanks to:
Tandy Corporation for their support (they picked up the cost of supplying tools and expense not covered by the IILG grant)
Jim Linnell, George Hurst, Laura Gutowski and especially to the volunteers of the LoneStar leather Guild (without their help, we could not have done this)
Special Thank You to you the members of the IILG Leather Guild (iilg.net) for granting the financial support to further the craft and make 30+ kids proud and happy
Dale Grabowski, proud member of the IILG (iilg.net)
