For the Vimeo Weekend Project, "What's New With You?"

After shooting video in the Jefferson National Forest at Pandapas Pond near Blacksburg, Virginia, I started pondering why many of us disregard the beauty that surrounds us.

Violence, Hate, War, Natural Disasters.

In 2009, why can't we decide to forgive, forget, and just, simply, slow down? I merged my video with a few photos I found on the internet. Hopefully, I've conveyed a positive message.

Music: "Details in the Fabric" by Jason Mraz
Narration: Jacob Davis

It's a new era for America, lets hope the change is a positive one that reflects around the Globe? By remembering the atrocities that have inflicted us can we truly appreciate the good times we've had - let's cherish those good times and many more to come!

    A poignant video Paul - thanks :)

    Paul,

This is beautiful. My favorite segments were those that were filmed by you. Your images have such great depth of field. I also really enjoy how you layer images - simply and powerfully.

That was fantastic. Loved every second of it. The music was just perfect and the way you matched it with the images. Great!

And of course you had to put Obama in it. I kinda expected that, and I agree. Hope he can do a fraction of what he says.
  • Paul Davis plus 10 months ago
Thank you Mathias. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed the layering of your video. The child's voice at the end reminded me of why we must slow down.

    Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing this video Paul! I often remind myself to slow down, but it's great to spread the word.
A lot can happen in a year, and I wish that forgiveness can be part of that.
Good job! The pictures are well chosen and very meaningful

Agreeing to disagree, I may not be a fan of the new Commander in Chief, but the entire overall message you convey in this (Beautiful) piece, is truly well done!! Bravo, and thanks for creating something so well worth the time to sit and take it all in.. Many best wishes for your future and creations to come... highlandbreez

    Paul

You have blended perfectly your footage with all of the others into a really wonderful message - it is, in my opinion, extremely positive. All of the stuff you shot is just amazing!

    Bravo!!
  • Paul Davis plus 10 months ago
As always, Dan, your words mean a lot! I enjoy your work as well. HAH! It is kind of neat how we were shooting the same footage that day. And what's funnier, is that I did NOT expect the pond to be frozen over. I was actually kind of startled when I walked up on it.

Share your work with me in the future. It's nice to have these connections on Vimeo.

paul, what a beautiful song to work your magic with. i love the footage you shot and the interweaving of most of the elements. i'm one of those who "let's go" daily, but i also realize not everything is going to be 'fine' for everyone. as they say, roses arrive on the front porch while an ambulance comes in the back; mortality is part of the game. ;) that said, knowing that some of us will not survive, gives me all the more reason to love today, to express today, and to explore creatively this very day. thank you

    warm regards

    evanoah,

I appreciate your comments. You always give great feedback! I had fun putting this piece together, but after awhile, I couldn't wait to be done with it. LOL

    Violence, Hate, War, Natural Disasters...
World was not the best place for us to living from very begining. We are here to make the best out of it. By respect one another.
Violence, Hate, War are caused by separation. Society separates us from being close together as a one. If we are smart enough we will go the other way from society's approch. We are the spirits from one nature and there are no separation from the begining. What when wrong? We had to believe it is all about myself from begining. My success. My happiness. My,my, mine, me, me, me. Then we began to realize that there are other side of coins. Other people like us going through pain in this life.
That love in every each of us make the better tomorrow by keep oneself humble. Humble to listen to others like I wanted to be heard. Humble to pay attention to their needs. Humble to give when we can. Humble to be their friends. Humble to live in this world with respect. Humble to live in this world with love in our heart.
That is best way we can live in this life with the others.
When we raise our voice and say me, that's where all go wrong. Dictator are no torious for it. Althought we all had to copy to see if that was the way of living with the others.
We are the spirit from same place call " Human Nature"
Does not matter, black white, yellow or rich or poor.
We were born in this world without choosing this conditions. Good family, mean family, nationality, religion...etc
We had no choice. We are here to love one another humbly from warm heart to regenerate the love we all come from. Walk the path with the love, humbly.
Humble means honesty. If we are honest, we will be humble. To be humble we have to be thankful as who we are. To be thankful we have to know the truth.
We all have life to live. Passionately with love in our heart, humbly.

Thank you very much for your loving heart to share best way as you can. That best wish and your concern is all you can do. Participath with the right thing without separating the wrong is what you are trying. It is beautiful that you are participath and sharing. It is precious and it is lovely thing to see as human as I am.
You are one good one and we don't mistake that.
Have a wonderful evening Paul my dear friend.

    BRAVO!
What a STUNNING piece of work Mate.
The thought & feelings you have put into it is truly beautiful. It would be a wonderful thought to have world peace some day :)
    GREAT job Paul.
  • Paul Davis plus 10 months ago
I totally agree. I'm going to cling to the idea of world peace like clutching the dusty, tattered rags of a beggar as he crosses the street. No one cares for a smelly beggar. It's kind of sad, really.

Thanks for the kind words! =D
  • Annie plus 10 months ago
With World peace there would be MORE attention paid on the homeless and the money that is NOT spent on War would be spent on those who are Homeless :)))))))).
We would than have a far better world for every one :))))
Including those who are starving in different countries around the globe :)))))
