Pastor Calvin Bergsma challenges us to Coach or Die.
"I am not saying you need to sign up to coach little league or soccer or you’ll die. but we need to understand how to keep our churches from dying, which requires Coaching or Discipleship".
Discipleship is an absolutely necessary component in Christianity. When we Disciple someone… it is like Coaching or being a good Father!
● It is an intense relationship that takes… love, teaching & discipline.
● It’s hard work but the rewards go beyond the moment… and will span many generations.
God is calling all of us… to be engaged in the “disciple” process.
● First to be discipled… and in turn to coach those that follow them.
II Timothy 2:2 The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.
I believe many have misunderstood Christ’s Great Commission to the Church.
Matt. 28:18-20 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
● We think we’re supposed make converts…. get everyone to believe & be save.
● But Christ’s command to His Disciples was not… simply to make converts… but to make Disciples… and there’s a big difference (which is not immediately evident.)
