Iddirs, traditional burial associations, are the most dominant form of community based organisation in Ethiopia, and an important part of the social fabric in the communities where we work.
Realising the potential role that they can play in development ACORD been working with Iddirs associations in Dire Dawa, Shashamene and Addis Ababa since 1994. These strengthened community based organisations, have demonstrated a growing interest in engaging in diverse development activities, many now going beyond their traditional funeral role.
