~ is an experimental application for handheld devices. Sounds can be recorded and manipulated on the fly. Snippets, site-specific memories can be created & recorded into sound files by adjusting delay feedback, time, bandpass filter parameters through touch gestures. Soundflower is an instrument, a sono(photo)grapher, an observer.
It is an example on building an application for Android using free, open source frameworks for sound and image. Sound manipulation, buffering, sampling, spectrum analysis is made with the free open source patcher language Pure Data. The visual appearance, GUI and spectral painting is made with Processing (as a really easily available and handy framework for Android development).
The rest is up to the sounds made by the user.
