Firefly Synchronisation
This video shows the synchronisation of simulated fireflies, with 'flocking' being mimicked through the use of 3-field Perlin Noise.
As an aside, I think this is my final Firefly Synchronisation attempt. I've decided to leave OpenGL and impressive 3D rendering, the original next steps in this test, to another project.
Background on Firefly Synchronisation can be found in the following document:

jzellis 1 year agoThat's very pretty. Did you use Processing for this? I'd be curious to see your method for constraining the motion to a spherical area -- both Robert and I discovered that Perlin particles want to flow offscreen unless you constrain them. :-) -
Ryan Bateman 1 year agoYes, I used Processing. How do you mean 'sphereical area'? I'd be happy enough to email you the source, if you'd like. I'm planning on getting myself a domain to post this stuff, along with the source, but I've yet find the time. Drop me an email at secretdark (at) gmail dot com and I'll reply with it.
