1. The Importance of a 5 point harness car seat
3 years ago
Kyle David Miller was 3 years old when his parents' minivan was in a rollover crash. He was secured in his booster seat with a seatbelt, but dring the crash, the seatbelt failed and Kyle (along with his booster seat) were ejected from the vehicle. Kyle was killed upon impact.
Had Kyle been in a 5 point harness car seat which goes to a higher weight than the traditional 40lbs, he may still have been here with us today. As such, Kyle's parents would like to ensure other parents do not walk their journey of grief and have the opportunity to keep their children safer in a 5 point harness car seat.
Kyle's parents started a foundation in December 2006 which donates these high weight capacity car seats to low income families across North America. Please consider supporting the Kyle David Miller Foundation kyledavidmiller.org with a tax-free donation.

My heart breaks with you and your family's pain. You and your family, including Kyle are in our prayers. We are buying harnesses for our children and proper seats tommorow. Thank you.

I have a child who is turning 4 at the end of the month. My wife and I have been really watching and learning about car seats and become advocates of the 5-point harness systems. I am a firefighter/EMT, my wife is a past firefighter, and we have seen many accidents, some involving children. There have been a few that I have been on where the child was 'supposedly' restrained properly, but were ejected from the vehicle or within the vehicle with tragic consequences. I never wish to become the father mourning a child like you, your family, and so many others have done. I thank you for doing what you have been doing, the research and the awareness education. Because of this, Kyle has touched many of us and will touch many more. His life was lost, but with this loss, many more will live. Again, thank you.
My daughter is turning one this month and I have been doing some research on car seats when I came acrossed your story. It deeply touched my heart. I am truly sorry about your loss. Although some good may come from it. My child will be safer since i have seen and read about your loss. There is no doubt in my mind that i will be buying a car seat with a 5 point harness. Once again im truly sorry. I also want to thank you and tell you how wonderful i think it is that you have turned this loss into something wonderful for the good of other parants and children. Thanks so much.
I am a friend of Myra's *above post* and she posted your story around myspace. I have two little girls ages 2 and 10 months and I can only imagine what you are going through. I am so sorry for your loss. My husband and I will definitely be getting our girls a 5 point harness car seat now that I have read your story. You are one dedicated mother to be so strong and pass this along for other mothers/fathers to see. Thank you so much and again I am really sorry for your loss. Such a young age to be gone so sudden.
When I first seen your video about Kyle about 2yrs ago, I cried my heart out. No parent should ever have to deal w/ loosing a child. I am so sorry for your loss. I did after watching the video, get online & purchase a 5 point. When it got here my son didnt want anything to do w/ another car seat so i decided to show him the video & explained WHY is gonna have it until is is not longer able to fit. To this day at the age of 7 in Dec, Jimmy still sits in his seat. Thank You SO much for doing such a wonderful thing.

Because of this video my grandchildren are still using 5 point harness seats. Thank you SO very much for putting this video out there. It brought me to tears. What a sweet boy. Praying for his sister and you and your husband.
I watched this video a few years ago and cried my eyes out. I now own two Britax Regent car seats and my 7 year old will be in it for some time to come.(she's only 43 lbs.) I just sent this video to several mom's from my Brownie troop after hearing some of the girls don't use any type of safety restraint system. I hope they reconsider after viewing this. I don't care if it takes more time to get in the car. My daughters life is more important. I made my daughter watch the video and now she understands why she must stay in this seat and not sit in just a booster with a lap belt only. Thank you for this posting it. It just breaks my heart.
I think we will see more innovation regarding these types of car seats which hopefully will increase the amount of safety children have. Just like the one report said above, look at the staggering amount of crash reports that there is - taking precautions is definitely the way to go.
For all those parents out there there who do not know much about car seats and safety, I suggest that you take a look at rearfacingcarseat.com as it has lots of reviews which can help educate you.
