RESEARCH ON TRANSITION ZONES / CEMETERIES
by Elisabeth van Leersen
Researching a Jewish neglected cemetery with a mix of identities. On some levels
still a graveyard, but at the same time also a park, and a forest. How has an area
grown the way it looks today? Because of time, events and intentions back then?
Imagining vertical transitions in soil, time and history, linked with the horizontal
transitions in landscape. Reading the old traces, and simultaneously writing my own.
It was tradition to clean and paint the gravestones each springtime. The remains of
once colourfull stones are still visible.
