RESARCH ON TRANSITION ZONE / METRO LINE UNDERGROUND
by Eleni Katsali
Station to station :Poetics of a traveler in a post Stalinist city underground metro. Is there an underground city scape? Can the footprint of a city reach the layers of the underground metro system? By studying Warsaw’s metro city, I created a landscape out of the city’s underground metro stations. Inspired by the textures, the actual architectural forms and the light observed I created a typology of motifs and logos. Taking this typology to the outside of the station (ex. by applying it to lampposts), I bridge the transition between the city and its underground, while creating an identity for the metro station.
