A commission for the San Diego Museum of Art's Summer Salon Series 2011.

This series of weekly art happenings were broadly themed around the topic, What does a city need? I approached this theme from an interest in power infrastructure and it's critical importance to the city. This dependency contrasts interestingly with the geographical remoteness of most power infrastructure to the city. This is especially true in the city of San Diego. I determined to bring images of these crucial pieces of power infrastructure into the museum by gleaning them from another critical element of contemporary urban life, the internet. The process involved taking public domain models from the Google SketchUp library, reworking them to be suitable for 3D printing, printing them in ABS plastic, wiring electronics into them, and then placing them in unexpected places within the Museum. Within the gallery, the pieces act as subtle and humorous reminders of our interconnectedness with remote locations scattered throughout the Southwest.
