My trip to Florida, and my first vidblog shot with my new camera and lens adapter. It was a great excuse to film a bunch of stuff and learn the rig a bit better. I'm super happy with how it all looks and can't wait to use it more!

HV30 + Brevis 35mm

Awesome cam/adapter set up. I liked the shots of playing with the dog.
  • justin plus 10 months ago
Yeah! It's way fun to shoot with. It's like combining my long lost love of photography with my current love of filmmaking. Can't wait to get more lenses and stuff.

E Gad sir, you are like the Da Vinci of Vidblogs! Plus the video convinced me that the HV30 is the next camera for me, even if I won't get the adapter for while.
  • justin plus 10 months ago
Haha, Da Vinci of vidblogs, I love that

love the editing. could have done without the few slide/push transitions... but other than that thought is was really engaging from the interesting edits.

should throw the music in the description.
  • justin plus 10 months ago
Thank you! Good advice ... added the music to the credits :) I always put it at the end of my vidblogs but I think it goes by too fast for most folks.

As Blake said... love the editing! Love the music. Fantastic visuals.

Can you describe the gear you used?

  • punkandska66 10 months ago
The adapter looks great Justin! I'm thinking about getting one for my HV30 as well, (Twoneil, probably, but I'm not sure. All I know for sure is that I don't have nearly enough for a Letus) so this was interesting for me. That dog was full of win, when he was howling, lol. Well, hope you had fun!
I'm confused though. January + going to the beach?
  • justin plus 10 months ago
Dude, it's Florida! It was like a really nice 75ish degree day. Coming from NYC that's not too shabby
  • punkandska66 10 months ago
I guess, yeah, if you're coming from NYC. I've been to Florida once, when I was like 4 so, I guess I don't remember how hot it actually gets down there.

Well, it's all been said, but for good reason; Fantastic editing and great music choice. I'd also love to know what the music is, but hopefully you'll put that in the description ;)

Really good video all round. It looks like a fun trip, and I like the shots you got. I would say the camera and adaptor are a rousing success. Good work Justin!

"Mirando" by Ratatat (just added to descrip)

    what are you using justin?

    Camera?
    Adapter?
  • punkandska66 10 months ago
I want to say HV30 with Brevis.

Yeah, I just checked. He has another video called "My First HV30 + Brevis Test", which would lead me to think that it's an HV30 with Brevis. Also you can see the HV30 in the mirror somewhere in this video :)

  • Paul Davis plus 10 months ago
Wonderful editing techniques....get rid of the slide transitions though. yuck. That's just me...I'm old school.

Definitely going to check out all of your other vids. Great stuff!

Edit: Oh...I forgot to add; I like how you incorporated both the ambient sound and the soundtrack.
  • justin plus 10 months ago
Swing by my vidblogs album! You'll find a lot to watch :)
  • Paul Davis plus 10 months ago
    I'll definitely do that. Thanks!

nice. everything looks so much better in hd. the whole time watching it, it didnt have a home-movie feel to it, it felt, like no one was behind the camera.

the editing was pretty great to, i liked the part 37 seconds in, made me chuckle whole heartingly.
  • justin plus 10 months ago
Wow, much appreciated! I try to make it as much like living through my eyes as possible. I can only imagine what it's like for other people to watch, hehe

as said before.....amazing. do you have a flip module on your rig? or did u just flip in post?
  • justin plus 10 months ago
Yup I've got the flip - I've tried using things like the Red Rock before without a flip and it just messed with your brain - so unnatural.

Dude, as usual, looks fantastic video.

I like the Hv30 set up you got there you really beefed it up and made it look more real deal.

so how do you like the camera?

I use the HVX allot these days, and i like it, but i would love to own my own camera, and i was looking at the hv20 for a long time, like in terms of function how does the hv30 measure up.

again, thank you for sharing this slice of your life with us. you make me want to make my life more awesome.

    you rock

  • Dude, was that the Tampa area? Man, I could've said, "What's up Justin from Indy Mogul!" If I saw you like how I would say, "What's up [insert person I consider famous here]" to anybody that I consider famous.

Simply amazing shots with great editing!

Do you have a rail system?? I hope to get the brevis35, but I don't know if I should invest in a rail system to hold everything together.

Also (sorry for the questions), is the extra $$ worth it for the flip module? Is light loss an big issue?
  • justin plus 5 months ago
I just got a very inexpensive rail system not so long ago - it's good to have if you plan on using a tripod!

The suggestion I've been getting from a lot of friends of mine is that the real future is in cameras like the Canon SD Mark 2 that are SLRs that also shoot video. Much easier to have it all in one unit than attaching a bunch of stuff. That'd be my recommendation for now!

but if you want a brev, I'd suggest the flip, it's an absolute pain if you can't flip the image otherwise.
