I've never seen Android perform this poorly, on any website, ever. This is either a specific bug in the Android browser or the website, or something is seriously wrong with your device. Also, are you about to cry or is that how your normally sound?
  • Ryan Heise 4 months ago
How I always sound. I'm always about to cry.
  • twe4ked 4 months ago
@Jon even if it is a specific bug with the browser or the website, the point is that iOS handles it fine, please reply with a video of the iOS browser failing where the Android browser works fine.
  • jon smith 4 months ago
OK load any website with flash (wow, get owned). Anyway, great you found a bug in a handset running an unknown version of Android that is at best 2 major revisions behind the Android software just launched (ICS 4.0). I've used close to a dozen different android handsets and I've _never_ seen the problem exhibited in this video. This is so rare that even if iOS had 10x the failure rate as Android I could search for 10 years and be unable to find a site that caused an issue.

@jon its 2012 and you never heard of HTML5? And Flash is only useful on a desktop/laptop CPUs anyway. The world uses their smart phones for social networking and YouTube. Not for advance flash web designing. I don't want to get started on the apps/internal memory(no sd card. Lmao)/large developers community/simplicity/appearance of apple product itself... WOW!! GET OWNED!!
  • jon smith 1 day ago
I literally cant understand half of what youre saying i'm going to assume you're either retarded or not a native english speaker. The best I can tell you're implying that android phones don't have "apps" or "sd cards" or a "large developer community". And since all of those things are stupid and wrong I don't really think I need to address them. In summary you're a dumb twat get owned.

No wonder most Android users hate their device so much.

So an IOS fanboy makes an incorrect video (because thats not how it works) and straight away all the other IOS fanboys jumps right away on board and believes the FUD. Pretty much sums up how narrow-minded IOS fanboys are, scary dumb.
  • twe4ked 4 months ago
Please, let me see your 'correct' video.

It's true the stock browser doesn't like that gallery, but making the assumption the android browser sucks on all pages then, because it doesn't like that code is 100% FUD and that's how it's portrait.

So maybe the site owner should start checking up on the code, because browsers handle code differently, specially when the code does not validate correctly.

I tried on two different Android phones and yes it does get laggy when your gallery is on the screen, but I can still use the browser without problems.

I agree the stock browser isn't amazing, though reports are claiming it has gotten quite an update in Android 4.0, but it's no where nearly as bad as it's portrait.

And here is the great thing about it, if you don't like the stock browser, there are alternatives. Eg. I'm using Opera Mobile 11.5, because it's super fast, has a nice UI, still has flash suppport (on demand) and sync of favorites.

And no I'm not gonna make a video, if you don't believe me, I couldn't care less.

This is either do to crappy coding on your website, or due to the fact that Android's browser is fully-featured and has flash (which your website uses a lot of, apparently). As the other guy said, I have rarely ever seen Android's browser perform like that... and I've owned about 8 Android devices. I currently loaded up that site on my Droid Bionic and it didn't perform anywhere close to that poorly.
  • twe4ked 4 months ago
Whether or not the website has crappy coding or a lot of flash the point is that it can't handle the page when the iOS device can. Also, saying that Android supports flash but doesn't work properly when there is flash on the page isn't a strong argument.
  • Refocused Media 4 months ago
The point is that the issues seem exclusive to THIS page. iOS is able to handle it due to not having to work with the crappy flash coding that is on THIS page. I can go to any other site, flash or no flash, and not have this issue whatsoever. Sure you can argue that iOS doesn't have to ever deal with this issue, but then again I can take advantage of flash whenever I want.

I actually just tried this out on my Nexus S and I can attest to the performance of this Android Stock Browser.

It is laggy but not to the extent shown here.

I tried this very test with multiple browsers using TIMN's iPhone 4S review page (lots of images) on my Nexus S. Also, I don't have Flash installed on my device.

Stock Browser: Pretty much exactly as shown here.
Dolphin Browser HD: No better than the stock browser.
Opera Mobile: Similar experience to Mobile Safari, provided the full page loads (more often than not it only loads half the images.)
Opera Mini: Similar to Opera Mobile, but images turn into single-colour blocks while scrolling - weird.
    Firefox: Crashed while loading page.

How dare you take video of you using the stock browser on an Android and use it to prove your point!!! There's definitely something wrong with you or your website, because it couldn't possibly be Android!!! Apple fanboy!! FUD!!!

I verified that thisismynext.com does not use Flash, but does use quite a bit of JavaScript. To be fair, it doesn't validate properly, but sites that do are in the minority on the web.

Jesus some of you are crazy.

    1) I never once had flash installed on my Nexus S and there is NO flash on TiMN.
    2) I was running unmodified Android 2.3.7, which, up until a few days ago, was the the latest and greatest version for phones.
    3) The point wasn't to show specifically how bad Browser was, but to show that iOS offers a far superior experience.
    4) This happens all across the web on Android; I just happened to pick this page because it was bookmarked. Anything with a modest amount of javascript does this to Browser.

PLEASE STOP BEING INSANE HUMAN BEINGS AND GET ON WITH YOUR LIVES

(And thanks to those who had nice, non-crazy things to say.)

"2) I was running unmodified Android 2.3.7, which, up until a few days ago, was the the latest and greatest version for phones."

let me translate: this entire exercise was pointless

cool thanks for clearing that up

What is the URL of the page you're testing? I'd like to compare my Nokia N9's behaviour with what I see here.
  • Marius Gedminas 3 months ago
Googling for the text netted me theverge.com/2011/10/1/2461061/asus-eee-pad-slider-review, but it doesn't look the same (e.g. no gallery of pictures). New site design, or wrong URL?

  • jon smith 1 day ago
I'd go test this again on my Galaxy Nexus running ICS and Chrome but this website doesnt exist anymore. The Verge runs great though! Also because the screen is larger than the postage stamp that is the iPhone I can actually read it too!
