"Alt-pop duo Emma Panas and Duncan McDougall are Paper Crows, a London-based pairing who have just released the first track off their soon-to-be-released debut album. The track, When Friends Survive is a synth-laden, ambient indie-pop song that marries Panas’ haunting near-classical vocals with McDougall’s distorted and sharp beats.
When Friends Survive is accompanied by a dark and compelling video created by self-taught London filmmaker, Zaiba Jabbar who has encapsulated the duo’s musical dynamic to a tee. Intriguing and mysterious both lyrically and visually, the video is in a constant state of montage and juxtaposes morphing streams of fluorescent color against isolated shots of Panas and McDougall walking under the eerie night sky, only to be interrupted by flashes of pulsating glitter that may or may not cause welcome hypnosis.
For their debut album, Panas and McDougall have signed with the newly revamped record label, Futurecut Songs Ltd that saw Kobalt Music Group and renowned London writer/producer duo Darren Lewis and Tunde Babalola (who have worked with the likes of Lily Allen and Dizzee Rascal) join forces. This newfound collaboration between Paper Crows and Futurecut has seen the embrace of a more mainstream sound compared to previous tracks, Fingertips and Stand Alight that allows fans to experience less sporadic light and shade and more addictive synth and bass."
