Every Way Out; Seminar & Workshops will have taken place 26th-30th September and involved students of Architecture, Art, and Media & Communication Studies. Discussions emerging from an imagined large-
scale exterior intervention, planned for the North Quay of the Port of Cork in 2012. Viewed as a hybrid of art and architecture, the structure is intended to provide a framework for exploring ideas that are sustainable in the Public Realm for the future. Selected contributions from participating students will be part of the finished piece. ‘Every Way Out’ may exhibit traits of a living organism like; self-replication, open-ended evolution, flocking, consciousness and an auto-catalytic process that builds on itself.
The toolkits for workshop participants include; a physical layer (e.g. that of a site in Cork City Docklands); gates of perception (e.g. sensorial); modules (e.g. devices of parts); networks (feedback loops); guests (people as well as their messages); reactions (responsive environments - transcription, translation, regulation, binding etc); agents (catalysts); pathways (spatial intelligence); tissues (tissue cultures); units (cells).
