In spite of a historic October snowstorm, hundreds of supporters joined the YMCA of the North Shore Saturday night, October 29th for it's 13th annual gala, “Masquerade Ball”. The gala benefits the YMCA’s Y for All campaign, which helps ensure no child, family or adult is turned away because of their inability to pay.
This video was designed to encourage Gala attendees to "raise their paddle" and underwrite sending a kid to Y Camp.
Beth Francis, YMCA Chief Development Officer summarized the results on the phone to me after the event: "I wish you were there, I wish I had a video camera, because, the amount of energy in the room when Rick Doucette did the Camperships was amazing.
I mean, people were generous, period, but when it got to the Camperships and played your video, people got it. They understood what they were there for and they really wanted to see us reach our goal.
Our goal was $ 80,000.00, which was $ 5,000.00 more than last year. Big Rick said that he would do two cartwheels of we exceeded $ 100,000.00. Before we even got to the $ 500.00 level, we had already surpassed $100,000. So, Big Rick did three cartwheels in a row! The crowd gave a standing ovation, they were so excited! I had volunteers and board members with tears in there eyes saying, “ I can’t believe this!” I am getting e-mails from people I don’t even know saying, we go to lots of events, and this was the best one we have been to. It was fantastic. It was a great night for the Y."
Guests set a record for the amount of funds donated to YMCA camperships during the live auction: $115,000.
