'Dilemma' video for the Leeds band Grammatics
9 months ago
This production got off to a very shaky start. I had a budget of £1000 and the record company needed a quick turnaround as the band were in the middle of a tour. So no time for planning we decided to meet up and wing it. Sharing ideas with the band to see what we could come up with. It didn't go well, the band turned up hours late. Okay not the end of the world but we wanted to ready for them, we had started getting ready and planning from early morning. By the the time the band had arrived (with lunch) we'd already been there 5 hours I was p***ed off and not feeling particularly creative. The singer pretty much moaned about everything. They are nice people and a lot of the moaning was justified. The lighting wasn't very good and the music wasn't loud enough. I generally think the singer just wasn't at all impressed with our set up. I would say well what do you expect for a grand, but the band has since gone on to do some very glossy, expensive looking videos for less money. In the end the whole day was wrote off.
A video still needed doing and we needed the money so the band offered up a new location. Off we went and again still no real idea we got 3 or 4 hours at the Grammar school two of the band members had attended. A really nice location and everyone was in a much better frame of mind. So using 2 redheads (1 broke) 2 Canon XH A1s and tripod and crane arm on another tripod off we went. The editing was intense, with input from the band and the record company. I'm not sure about the result. I got some good feedback but to be honest I think there is some good ideas in there but I think the production lets it down.
