well very beautiful work. did you do the grade yourself?
  • Jon Gaute Espevold 4 months ago
it was graded by the director, but its not heavily graded in any way. most of it is close to how it was shot.
  • Sam Cutler-Kreutz 4 months ago
Even better, well kudos to both you and him. The images are unique and striking. Well lit and composed.

Great cinematography (I love shallow DoF shots!) and excellent sound mixing. A bit heavy on the music, I think, but still enjoyable.

My favorite parts are the burning Furby shot (1:37) and and the piano scene (5:05).

Also, lovely color editing. It really sets the atmosphere of each scene.

    thanks, glad you like it.
by basic I just meant that we didn't have a whole lot of extra gear, just the basics that you need to make the camera work in a decent way ;)

what was your light set on indors shots?
  • Jon Gaute Espevold 3 months ago
    sorry for my slow reply.
Most of the lighting in the apartment was natural light. although we had a 1,2K Hmi that we occasionally bounced in the ceiling and a 4bank kino at hand. In the mansion the key light was a chimera ball suspended on a max-boom for many of the shoots. we also had a couple of kinoflo if remember correctly, and some smaller tungsten lights.

awesome job man. you have a talent for clear visual storytelling. And you've got a great DP.
The only suggestion I would have is to cut it to 5 -6 minutes. There are a lot of moments and montages that don't deliver that much information and I think if you shave it down to just the plot beats you'd have a really great pace for a short film. Just something to think about.

It's beautifully shot and the sound design is very nice, as is the acting. My only criticism is the on location audio has a lot of reverb and sound a bit hollow. Sounds like a crappy ME66 or something attached directly to the RED. What did you field mix with?
