Cool! there's no sound, but the video is great. Thanks for sharing.
  • There's definitely sound. Stan saw it online as well and had sound. Not sure why you don't. Thanks for the feedback though. :)
  •
  • I like it! Only an idea: You could have ended the vid with a coloured shot of his painting...
  • Yeah, I thought about it. Liked the idea of showing the painting in color, but didn't like the idea of breaking from black and white.

    Thanks for the feedback.

David, we're connected through Stan, as he is my art mentor. (Stan and I also share a ghost: ha ha: ask him about that one). David, I have to tell you, the cinematography and music dovetail to Stan like a glove. This is a beautiful and fitting tribute to an honorable man and an exceptional artist whose name should be flown like a flag. Well done. VERY well done!
  • Glad you liked it. The feedback is appreciated.

Yeah, Stan's the man. Didn't know he was also into Nick Drake. Just felt right. We shot the whole thing on a whim. I was bored, looking for something to shoot and called him to see if he was going to be at the studio. Seemed like a cool thing to shoot. We shot the whole thing in about 30 minutes.

We're already talking about a longer piece. Now that he knows what I was doing, we can expand the concept. As it was, I shot it in real time. I started shooting details while he was setting up, then I shot him while he painted. When he was done, I was done. Pretty cool.

David, what are your export settings? I keep getting crazy noise or blocking in my final output...I don't see it in yours.
  • I'm not seeing it in yours. Is it possible it's your monitor or computer?

I also loved this piece. Good pacing and look.
    a good package.
  • Thanks. It was good for what it was. I didn't exactly spend a lot of time shooting it. If I was doing it again, I'd have edited it a little quicker in places, especially the more static shots. That said, I was pretty pleased with how it went.

It's stuff like this that's getting me excited about getting stuck in with my own brand new 5d2! Thanks for sharing, great quality, great framing and editing too.

    Best, Avey
  • Thanks man. Good luck with the new camera. Look forward to seeing what you come up with.

That was beautiful. Love the flow of this piece. It made me want to hang out in his studio while he worked!
  • It's very mellow. Like what you'd want from a studio across the yard from your house (which is what it is).

Great stuff, beautiful images, I particularly like the close ups of hands and picture - really nice. I assume that's the 85mm - looks like an awesome lens, will add it to my dream list....
  • Some of that is just as likely the 24-70mm f2.8, but the 85mm is an AWESOME piece of glass. My favorite lens, though not always the most practical. Will definitely change the way you shoot if, like me, you're used to zooms.

The true brilliance of this lies in the editing in iMovie. I never thought it would be possible to create anything that good with this software.
  • I thought the true brilliance would have lied with the editor, not the software. :)

It's true that for certain functions, iMovie is an amazing piece of software. You can't go very deep, but for simple edits, it's so much faster than working in FCP.
